Life of females and Work-Family Conflict

It is crystal clear that work-family conflict affects the job performance and job stress level of the women working in various different fields of Pakistan. Work-Family conflict is considered to be an important topic of study in a Collectivist culture like Pakistan, where a woman is considered to be a homemaker and tends to operate in allegiance to her family. Therefore, given the nature of all type of jobs, it is significant to see how women thrive in this environment.

After conducting a detailed study, I have come to the conclusion that work family conflict is therefore positively related to job stress and job performance. Also, the organization support weakens the relationship between work family conflict with job performance but it has is no moderating role on job stress although. Furthermore, the moderating role of collectivist culture was studied which showed that it weakens the relationship between work family conflict and job performance but has no significant effect on job stress though.

There is sufficient research available that proves when a balance is not formed between the family role one possesses and work demands, it paves way for conflict that if not resolved properly can therefore lead to troublesome outcomes. Women and their role in the society and business have been at the center of vision for us all always. Thus, conflict in the form of ‘time’ allocated to either family or work, is resolved by lowering the degree of involvement in work. The outcome of such imbalance has a spillover effect on their performance and participation.

In Pakistan, various researches have been conducted in the fields of banking, teaching, enterprises etc. However, there is very less exposure for women in today's world even. Women in Pakistan are usually associated with jobs like doctors, nurses, teachers or those that don’t involve being 40,000 feet above the ground like airlines industry that is growing currently in which women have indulged themselves by providing exceptional services. The industry comprises of three major airlines which are Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Air blue and Serene Air. The nature of the job has an impact on the life of these females as they are continuously stuck between the dilemma of managing their family and fulfilling their job requirements resulting in work-family conflict. Work-family conflict happens when an individual encounters incompatible requests among work and family jobs, making support in the two jobs increasingly troublesome.

There is a need to examine the causes, consequences and coping strategies for work-family conflict among females working in all industries of Pakistan resulting in stress and Job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Also need to find out intersectionality and impact of various structures like culture, religion, class, family structure, marital status that particularly results in work-family conflict to provide a clear view to the aspiring females successors by providing them with a realistic view and aid in eliminating any misapprehensions. It will also provide an unseen perspective of various social and cultural dimensions and unveil their impact on females working in the various industries. This will further prompt researches on Pakistani industries particularly associating with women. A lot of research has been carried out regarding work family conflict but it is only limited to males working in the different industries of Pakistan. Almost no research is available regarding the experiences of females working in this industry like airline, we have identified the gap which is about work family conflict among females working in context of Pakistan.
